What is Journalistic Wedding Photography?
"Journalistic" wedding photography is a style that emphasizes real moments in
the course of the wedding day, rather than doing a lot of posed photos. The background of
a photojournalist is quite different from a conventional studio photographer in that the
photojournalist is trying to catch images of life as it naturally occurs. Studio
photographers are more comfortable with predictable situations-planned poses and lighting.
The difference between the two can easily be seen in the energy (or lack of it) in the
images!
As weddings are evolving from traditional rituals into celebrations, so has the interest
in having photographers that can capture the essence of the event-from beginning to end. A
good photojournalist can relate events of the day in the form of a photo story which
literally has the day unfold to the viewer. Every effort is made to photograph the event,
but not be a part of it. While using as much natural light as possible, the emphasis is on
presenting the many facets of the big day-the preparation, the excitement, the
festivities, the guests...
Do you also take posed photos?
Yes! There are several instances when posed photos are important.
Particular photos with family, friends, and traditional post-wedding photos of the wedding
party and families are incorporated in the work. Studio lights and infrared technology
help these planned images have high quality, yet be done with speed so that the guests
won't be kept waiting!
